Hi guys! In this new series on my blog, I’m collaborating with bloggers from around the world asking them:
“Where’s one of your favorite places you’ve traveled to?”
This week, I interviewed Dearbhaile Ni Dhubhghaill, an Irish blogger who runs the blog Life of Dearbh. She recently had an exciting visit to Nkhata Bay and here’s what she had to say about it:
Nkhata Bay, Malawi
The Nkhata Bay area lies in the northern section of Malawi, the least developed and lesser-visited part of the country. The shores of Lake Malawi are full of golden beaches and magnificent landscapes, and Nkhata Bay is no different. Five hours north of Lilongwe, this area has been home to the Lake of Stars Music Festival several times. The nearby town of Chintheche has restaurants, bars, and shops for those who venture here, while lodges dot the coastline. Palm trees, white sand, and stunning blue waters have given the area a Caribbean feel in the heart of Africa.
Swim In Lake Malawi
Swimming in the warm, clear waters of Lake Malawi is an absolute must. Lodges generally occupy the best beaches but often allow day-visitors to come in.
Enjoy The Lake Of Stars Festival
Visit during the Lake of Stars festival and see art installations, musicians from Malawi and abroad, dancers, and local crafts. Spend your day on the beach awash with gentle music, then dance the night away barefoot on the grass.
Check Out The Beach At The Makuzi Beach Lodge
Makuzi Beach Lodge has one of the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever seen. Head there in the early evening for a drink on the balcony as you watch the sky turn pink.
What an absolute paradise! If you’re interested in learning more about Nkhata Bay, you can check out the Malawi tourism website. And, make sure to follow Dearbhaile’s blog to keep up with her adventures!
